Volkswagen may remove the famous VW Polo from the assembly line
Digging Volkswagen can remove the famous compact hatchback VW Polo from the assembly line. This possibility was hinted at by the head of Volkswagen, Thomas Schaefer.
Volkswagen has been producing the Polo since 1975. It consistently ranks among the top ten best-selling cars in Europe. In 2010 it was named European and World Car of the Year. But the future of this popular little hatchback is bleak.
According to Schaefer, due to the introduction of the Euro-7 environmental standard in Europe from 2025, the cost of small cars, such as, for example, the VW Polo, will increase by 3,000-5,000 euros. As a result, demand for them will fall and automakers will be forced to remove such models from the assembly line.
Schaefer stressed that now Volkswagen experts are evaluating whether it will be profitable to produce small cars with an internal combustion engine after the introduction of the Euro-7 environmental standard. If not, then this German auto giant will no longer invest in such cars, but will accelerate the transition to “green” technologies.
Ford previously announced that it will stop making the B-segment Fiesta in 2023. This model has existed for 50 years and has many generations. However, Ford has decided to move away from small petrol cars…
It was also known that Volkswagen could remove the legendary VW Golf from the assembly line.
